Melanotan I (MT1)

Melanotan 1 (MT1) is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring peptide α-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (α-MSH). It is a linear peptide consisting of 13 amino acids and is primarily studied in laboratory settings for its interactions with melanocortin receptors. Researchers utilize Melanotan 1 to explore signaling pathways related to pigmentation, cellular protection, and receptor-mediated biological processes.

In scientific investigations, Melanotan 1 has been examined for its ability to bind selectively to the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R). This receptor is known to regulate melanogenesis, the process by which melanin is produced in cells. Laboratory studies frequently evaluate how MT1 influences receptor activity, signal transduction, and secondary messenger cascades.
