SS‑31 is a synthetic mitochondria‑targeted tetrapeptide engineered to selectively accumulate on the inner mitochondrial membrane by binding to cardiolipin. In cellular systems, SS‑31 stabilizes cristae architecture, preserves membrane potential, and attenuates reactive oxygen species generation, making it a key reagent for studies of mitochondrial bioenergetics, oxidative stress pathways, and apoptotic signaling.
